I thought it time to discuss the reasons for the creation of Local-Yokels.com. Local-Yokels was created to solve a problem.
As a web developer / programmer I’m fully aware that it is quite easy to build out a site and publish it to the web. It’s another thing to get visitors to your site, and yet still another thing to get your local web traffic to visit local websites and businesses.
Local-Yokels.com was created, primarily, in an attempt to tackle this problem not only for my own web clients at Konbrio.com but for all businesses in the area.
Secondly I felt that as our area is growing we are losing our sense of community. We need a place where locals can share their opinions openly and discuss local affairs. Internet technologies can supply the venue to do so.
So how is this all going to work? How can businesses benefit? Well to answer that you need to know a little about how the internet works and in particular how search engines work. How often have we all heard the phrase, “Just Google it”? Countless times I’m sure. Search engines are getting to the point that just typing a question returns an answer in many cases. That’s great for the user of search but how does it work for website owners?
In its simplest form it is a popularity contest. The more “votes” your site has the higher ranking you get with the search engines. Votes are links pointing to your website from other websites. The number of links counts, but the number of relevant links counts more. Quality links far out weigh the quantity of links.
This is where Local-Yokels comes in. If your business or organization is new, sponsoring an event, having a sale, send us your story including links and we will publish it. What can be more relevant than a story about your business? And best of all it’s free! Or you can add your event to the free events calendar. You can create discussions in the free forums. Don’t forget to include your link in your signature. Then to top things off you can add your business to our free business directory.
Remember that every time you post to the forum or comment on a blog, you will leave a signature with your link in it if you have remembered to include your link in your signature. Search engines index those links (more votes).
So if you own a business and/or are concerned about your community take advantage of Local-Yokels.com. Help your business improve your community.
